The Computerized Paint Matching system determines the color scheme of a paint by using a small amount of liquid paint mixture. From the mixture, the system specifically identifies and quantifies the colors that constitute it. A PC in which the system runs is interfaced to a Spectrophotometer. The Spectrophotometer determines the wavelengths and absorbance values of colored samples. A set of standard paint colors (red, blue, yellow and green) are scanned by the Spectrophotometer. The wavelengths and absorbance values of these paints are stored in a database and are used in subsequent computations of color and percentages of paint samples. When a paint sample of unknown composition is scanned, the system outputs the percentages of each color that make up the paint. The system first identifies the colors that make up the combination of the sample from its peak wavelength. From the absorbance value, calculations are made to come up with the specific percentage of each color combination.
