Summary: | There are plenty of new and exciting input peripheral devices that have showed up in the market-examples are the joystick, the mouse, tabletboard and of course, the old but reliable keyboard. The more interesting data entry devices are those that are sensitive to light. One optical data entry device that is worth a second look is the light pen. Light pens are light sensitive transducers that detects the presence of the electron beam of the video screen. Because of this capability, the changes that will appear are due to a user's interaction directly with the screen. All that a user should do is point at the command and it will be executed immediately. The system will incorporate the use of a light pen that will serve as the tool in entering data onto the computer. Another objective will be the development of a system that will demonstrate the capabilities of the light pen specifically in menu selection and in graphic images designing. The main differences of the LIPS system from other light pen system is resolution. The LIPS system can give a pixel-level light pen position anywhere on the screen. Also, it uses graphic images to denote specific commands. This helps a user get an overview of what the system can do. These strengths combined, the LIPS system has made a step forward in making the computer user-friendly and easy to use. |
