The pace of living in today's society is moving very fast forward such that it is virtually impossible for one not to have an encounter with a computer or similar machines. But for the blind user, special computer machines must either be developed or enhancements must be made to accomodate them. Even more so, the advent of graphic visual representation of data by most application programs are making the blind user more blind to the data represented onto the screen. This is more of adding insult to injury and something must be done about this serious trend. The group's objective, in this case, is to provide an alternative method by representing graphic images from the screen onto a haptic-tactile slate composed of electrically controlled pins that move up or down. The image on the screen could then be represented on to the slate pixel by pixel with the resolution depending on the resolution of the tactile slate developed. Aside from this humanitarian objective, the group aims to apply the knowledge acquired during the whole timespan spent on studying the computer as a science and to be able to develop a device that would be interfaced with the microcomputer. The main components of the Blind User System are the interface card and slate device. A power supply drives the whole system. Although the prototype may have some rough edges, it sufficiently meets the objectives and standards set in the study. The thesis proponents maintain that improvements could still be made to enable the prototype to suit the special needs of the handicapped users. 1993-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/16388 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Information display systems Operating systems (Computers) Systems programming (Computer science) Communication devices for the disabled Blind Apparatus for
