Description
Summary:The objective of the project is to develop a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). The project will be an enhancement of a 1990 thesis dealing with the same topic. The PLC has input/output modules for control of devices and for interfacing with sensors, a central processing unit for stand-alone logic functions, counting, timing, and is programmable via downloading of software from a computer. Ladder Diagrams and Statement Lists are used for programming the PLC. The PLC is used for regulating and monitoring industrial control sequences. Its programmability makes it a convenient tool in automated manufacturing. Modifications in control sequences can be done without the usual rewiring or changes in control structure. The PLC that has been developed is a prototype and further enhancements are recommended. Current PLC technology offers a wider range of capabilities. It is hoped that this thesis project, along with the previous one, would begin further studies which will eventually lead to the development and widespread use of more sophisticated and versatile PLC's here in the Philippines.
