Ching, Davey The main objective of this thesis study is to come up with a Virus Detector and Remover Board that would aid the computing society in its fight against the menaces offered by the ever-increasing computer viruses in the market nowadays. The hardware component of the Board would contain the 8088 v20 based microcomputer system along with its software. The software component would be a monitor program and the routines to be taken by the Virus Detector and Remover Board whenever a virus-like activity is detected within the computer system. A thorough study of the various existing viruses along with its various antidote programs was made, and the result was the Virus Detector and Remover Board that can detect virus-like activities within the computer system, then perform a search in its' database to determine the kind of virus present, and suggests to the user an antidote for the virus. A major limitation imposed on the Virus Detector and Remover Board is that it cannot provide a cure for viruses it does not recognize to be in its' database, but only possibly able to detect its presence due to its' program activities. A major factor was that the EPROM cannot be appended to contain the new viruses coming out and the inability to upgrade the program to handle such new cases. Enhancements to the Virus Detector and Remover Board such that it will work under other systems other than the PC XT and upgrading of the software components would be useful in the future. 1991-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/16396 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Computer viruses Software protection Computer security |
