Summary: | Statement of the Objective. The proponents insight on the following objectives of their study is:
To find out the effectivity of the Diary method of survey by comparing the findings of the television viewing habits of the AB socio-economic segment residing in Metro Manila subdivision and that of the Pulsitron ratings published by ABS CBN 2, during specific time periods.
Statement of the Hypotheses. 1. The Diary Method is effective for television program rating information. 2. There is a significant similarity between the ranking of television station preferences as among the whole socio-economic segment and that of the AB socio-economic segment using the Diary Method.
Statement of Assumptions. 1. The information pertinent to the study released by research agencies such as the Philippine Research and Survey Center and Pulsitron are reliable and can be the basis for comparison. 2. The sample represents the whole of the Metro Manila population of the AB socio-economic class.
The respondents watch television regularly and answer the questionnaires objectively, therefore, the group treated the questionnaires as valid.
The sampling design used is the purposive method. The proponents solicited one hundred five (105) AB households but after eliminating spurious responses, only seventy five (75) households qualified. These were chosen from sixteen (16) subdivisions within Metro Manila.
To encourage respondents to cooperate, masscards were used as incentive for each household that participated. The Philippines is known for it's religious society. Logically, the effect of the masscards on the respondents will have an impact on them which would lead to their cooperation to participate in the study.
The Diary method of survey is a self administered questionnaire in which the respondents are asked to record prespecified information on a periodic basis. . The Diary included instructions so that the members of the household would know how to accomplish the survey questionnaire. These questionnaires contained half hour time slots since the minimum span of time for a program is thirty (30) minutes. An average of four (4) per household will check the corresponding channel they were watching. The questionnaire included demographic data that these respondents were required to answer. The Diary plus the demographic page amounted to fifteen (15) pages per respondent. (Refer to page 60 for a sample of the Diary questionnaire).
The duration of the Diary was two weeks from February 4 to 17. Retrieval was done after the two week period. |
