Description
Summary:The study aims to study the factors that are related to the occurrence among high school students in both public and private high schools. A survey was conducted on 159 Makati high school students who came from average sections. Self administered questionnaires were distributed and their responses were tabulated and correlated. The questionnaire was designed to find out the smoking habits of the respondents and their views concerning the occurrence of smoking. The results showed that 39% of high school students have tried smoking. The figure for the number of high school students who presently smoke is even lower, 6.3%. Several factors have been seen to cause smoking. These factors are sex, type of school, friends smoking and parents smoking. It was also found out that people from public high schools are more likely to smoke than those from private high schools males are more inclined to start smoking than females, people who have friends who smoke are more inclined to start smoking than those who do not have friends who smoke and finally if a person comes from a family with family members who smoke he is more likely to start smoking.
