Summary: | This study primarily aims to determine and describe the kinds of conflicts and how these conflicts are managed in the Needlecraft Association of the Philippines, a non-stock and non-profit organization.
Data were gathered through an in-depth interview of twelve (12) members, two (2) officers and one (1) board member from the greater Manila area. These respondents were drawn according to either of the two criteria: (1) has been in the organization for the longest period or (2) had been an officer or a board member.
The data gathered were about the profile of respondents, types of conflicts in the organization, sources of these conflicts, conflict management in the organization, and the outcome of conflict management.
People in the Needlecraft Association of the Philippines have their own ideas of conflict. Sources of conflict in the organization usually came from different factors like differences in values, attitudes, expectation, perception, and personality. These are just some of the factors that contributed to conflict in the organization. At times these factors contributed in creating problems in a non-stock and non-profit organization. Since members join this organization voluntarily and without any financial gains, members of the organization does not demand from each other. When conflict arises, people in the organization learned to deal with it in a manner that pressure could be alleviated.
Common strategies used by the Needlecraft Association of the Philippines in managing conflict are avoidance and collaboration. This is done during their own free time or during their meetings. It all depends on the intensity of the conflict. |
