Summary:The study focused on the retirees' re-employment. It aimed to determine retirees' reasons for re-employment, benefits derived, problems encountered and their coping strategies. It used an exploratory design and made use of a semi-structured interview guide as an instrument. This study comprised of twelve retiree-respondents from three different work settings. Four retirees from each of these institutions. Jose Rizal University (educational institution), Municipal Government of San Juan (government body) and United Laboratories Inc. (industrial field) were selected for the study. Analysis of data shows different reasons for re-employment of the retirees, trends however were observed per institution. Re-employment of the retirees in the educational field was primarily because of the love for the teaching profession. As in the case of the industrial sector, the company's offer for them to continue their services because of their knowledge and skills made it difficult for them to deny the offer. Also, their indebtedness to their organization made them re-enter the world force. These retirees show strong work ethics that keeps them wanted by their employers. Government retired employees, on the other hand, returned to work primarily because of social reasons that is sense of belongingness and freeing themselves from boredom. The benefits of re-employment prevail over the problems retirees experience. The top three benefits of the retirees' re-employment include financial support, social benefits and professional growth. Problems, on the other hand, include conflicts with co-workers, old age and schedule difficulties. As to coping strategies used by retirees in relation to their re-employment, adjustment with regards to learning the system, altering work practices and habits and being more open to comments are the top three strategies generally used by retirees. Re-employment, hence, gives the retirees a sense of fulfillment, gratification and self-esteem as they overcome challenges connected to their re-entry in the workforce.
