Summary: | The industry study on mutual funds was created to educate the public regarding other forms of investments, particularly the mutual fund investment, aside from bank deposits. In the world today, investor not only value financial security but also how their money would grow overtime.
The aim of this study is the development and dissemination of information through the use of the Five Competitive Forces of Michael Porter, the Value Chain Analysis of Robert Kaplan and the SWOT Analysis.
A mutual fund is an investment company that pools resources from investors and invest these in a basket of securities. Investors as shareholders share in the investment income generated by the fund.
There are 21 mutual funds here in the Philippines categorized as closed-end investment company and open-end investment company. These mutual funds are regulated under the Investment Company Act of 1960, and a governing body, the Investment Company Association of the Philippines. Equity fund, balanced fund, fixed income fund or bond fund, and money market fund, are the four classifications of mutual funds according to the type of investment they engage in. The NAVPS measures how much an individual's investment is paying off. There are twelve fund managers that manage the mutual funds and they are the ones responsible for the diversification of such investments.
A collective presentation was made regarding the problems that the industry is facing. These problems were segmented into five aspects, namely, marketing, technical, management, financial, and socio-economic.
With so many worthwhile contributions to consider from all the fund managers, and the Investment Company Association of the Philippines, reasonable conclusions and recommendations were made to make the study useful to a broad range of investors, as well as potential clients of the mutual fund industry. This study will serve as a collection of data and views gathered through a wide research process that will help the investing public make good decisions on where, when, and how to invest their money. |
