Summary: | This study is based on the existence of the practice of bloc voting done by the religious group, Iglesia Ni Cristo. The practice of bloc voting raises several questions because there exists a conflict between two constitutional rights, the right to religious freedom and the right of suffrage as protected also by the Omnibus Election Code. This study seeks to examine this practice as dictated by the leaders of Iglesia Ni Cristo to its followers and whether or not it violates the Coercion of Subordinates Law as provided in the Omnibus Election Code the following acts: coercion, intimidation or in any manner influence another to aid, campaign or vote for or against any candidate as well as dismissing, punishing, or threaten to dismiss or punish by separation, excommunication for disobeying or not complying with the acts ordered to aid, campaign or vote for or against any candidate. |
