Summary: | A company is a business entity that sells goods and services in order to make money. Di erent studies produced different results on the mortality and lifespans of companies. This paper is a study of the mortality of Philippine companies from 1980 to 2018. The study obtained estimates for the survival functions and hazard rate functions using the non-parametric methods, Kaplan- Meier and Nelson-Aalen. Furthermore, the maximum-likelihood estimators for the parameters of the survival functions were obtained. The survival functions of all companies and of the sectors namely: financial, holding arms, industrial, mining and oil, property, and services of the above mentioned non-parametric methods were obtained. The maximum likelihood estimators and half- life estimates assuming constant hazard rate were also determined for the entire data set and for the di erent sectors listed. The data was obtained from the Philippine Stock Exchange. The study concluded having the holding rms sector with the highest survival function values, and the mining and oil sector with the lowest survival function values. |
