Summary: | The effects of different combinations of volcanic ash and garden soil on the growth of mongo (Vigna radiata L.) were determined by measuring the following parameters: shoot length, root length, dry weight, transpiration rate and the soil nitrogen content.Root length and dry weight of the plant were highest in the pure garden soil and 0 ash combination. The highest shoot length was obtained in the combination of 3 volcanic ash and 1 garden soil while the highest concentration of nitrogen was obtained in the combination of 1 volcanic ash and 7 garden soil combination. Transpiration rate was the same in all combinations.Using One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), different combinations of volcanic ash and garden soil significantly affected the root length and dry weight while the effects on shoot length, transpiration rate and soil nitrogen content were not significant. |
