Hematological effects of thiodan in guinea pigs

The effects of a sublethal concentration of thiodan on red blood cell and white blood cell counts, erythrocyte sedimentation rate and hematocrit of guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus) were studied. Six female guinea pigs were divided into control and treated groups. The control group was intraperitoneally...

The effects of a sublethal concentration of thiodan on red blood cell and white blood cell counts, erythrocyte sedimentation rate and hematocrit of guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus) were studied. Six female guinea pigs were divided into control and treated groups. The control group was intraperitoneally injected with 0.9 percent saline solution and the treated group with 40 mg/kg of thiodan. Hematological tests were done after one week exposure of the guinea pigs to the pesticide. The study was conducted under laboratory conditions. Three replicates were done. Results showed that thiodan affects the blood picture of guinea pigs. The red blood cell count and hematocrit significantly decreased in guinea pigs treated with thiodan compared to the control group. The white blood cell count and the erythrocyte sedimentation rate significantly increased in the treated group compared to the control group. 1993-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/1132 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Pesticides Guinea pigs
