Description
Summary:Vision systems are the latest technology to find widespread application in manufacturing and distribution areas. These systems utilize video technology to present a picture to a processor which digitizes the image it sees to generate a numeric representation of the picture. It provides robotics systems the ability to make intelligent decisions concerning visual data. Being a relatively new field, machine vision has undergone a considerable growth spurt during the past years. As is often the case in the quest for new knowledge, development of this technology can be attributed to research and exploration. One areas that need further research and sufficient attention are those concerning computer technologies. This study explores the possibilities of machine vision through algorithm development. The study aims to make a computer software package that is common to all applications and can be called by other machine vision system software. Exploration for the possibilities of machine vision to industrial automation through algorithm development will start from building image processing and pattern recognition libraries and ready made subroutines which can be called by other programs when required. The objective of the study is to create a program written in C++ that utilizes machine vision techniques. The capabilities of the software will be distance computation, image reproduction, and comparison of the image with a reference plate.
