Effect of 2,4-D (Hedonal) on blood properties of guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus)
Male guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus) weighing 300-350 grams were treated with a single dose of 375 mg/kg of 2,4-D (Hedonal). After seven days, red blood cell count, white blood cell count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and hematocrit were determined.Treated groups showed a higher red blood cell coun...

Summary: | Male guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus) weighing 300-350 grams were treated with a single dose of 375 mg/kg of 2,4-D (Hedonal). After seven days, red blood cell count, white blood cell count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and hematocrit were determined.Treated groups showed a higher red blood cell count (2.66, 2.84, 2.81 million/mm) compared to the control groups (2.31, 2.37 million/mm). There was also an increase in white blood cell count in treated groups (2.98, 2.96, 2.97 thousand/mm) as compared to control groups (1.12, 1.14, 1.11 thousand/mm). No significant difference in erythrocyte sedimentation rate between treated and control groups was shown, except in replicate II where a decrease in ESR was noted. Sedimentation rates for treated groups were 0.02, 0.01, 0.02 mm/hr and for control groups were 0.02, 0.02, 0.02 mm/hr. There was no significant difference shown between hematocrit of treated and control groups, except in replicate I where an increase in hematocrit in the treated group was noted. Hematocrit values for treated groups was noted. Hematocrit values for treated groups were 43.03 percent, 42.65 percent, 41.88 percent and for control groups, the hematocrit values were 40.06 percent, 41.46 percent, and 41.07 percent. |
