A descriptive study of occupational hazards, occupational diseases, health services, and safety provisions in Modern Paper Products, Incorporated

A descriptive study of occupational hazards, occupational diseases, health services and safety provision was conducted in a paper converter company for a time period of three years (1990-1992). A total of 160 workers were studied. Occupational hazards identified in the firm were ergonomic stress, heat, cuts and abrasions, chemical fumes, dust and noise. The company provided its workers health services and safety provisions. However, personal protective equipment like masks that the workers need were not provided. Medical records containing diagnosis, signs, and symptoms were obtained from the in-plant clinic. The one way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) shows that there was significant difference at = .05 in the incidence of afflicted systems among the various departments. The Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) shows that the most affected system was the respiratory system and the department with the highest incidence was the Industrial Division.
