Drinking water quality monitoring in Concepcion, Marikina, Metro Manila.

A study to determine the quality of drinking water from underground sources in Concepcion, Marikina, Metro Manila was conducted from February to June 1993.Four sampling stations were selected. Samples were collected and analyzed in terms of physico-chemical parameters that could determine the safety of ground water for drinking purposes.Results showed that nitrate ranges from 0.047-0.069 mg/L phosphate, 0.153-0.280 mg/L salinity, 0.000-0.025 mg/L dissolved oxygen, 5.160-5.383 mg/L temperature, 28.250-28.450 C conductivity, 100.000-112.500 umhos alkalinity, 0.0020-0.0022 mg/L and pH, 6.5-6.7.All results of the considered parameters, in comparison with the government standards, passed the set standards. Nitrate has a 30 mg/L permissible level, phosphate at 25 mg/L, salinity at 200 mg/L, alkalinity at 75 mg/L: This study shows that all these parameters does not exceed the permissible levels set by the government. Dissolved Oxygen must be above 5.0 mg/L and in this study, it shows that it passed the required standard. According to the standards set by the government for drinking water, the pH must range from 6.5-8.5 and this study shows that the pH of the water it tested is within the specified range.
