Summary: | This ethnobotanical study was conducted to determine the role plants play in the culture of the Kankanays of Sagada. Mountain Province. Pertinent ethnographic data were gathered by observation, survey, immersion with indigenous folk. Eighty-five species belonging to 44 plant families were found to be economically and culturally important to the Kankanays. Economically, plants served as sources of food, medicine, infrastructure materials, household utensils and tools, and animal feeds. Some of these plants are integrated with religious rituals, beliefs and their art. |
