The essence of the female has always been undermined by the male dominated society. The language we use and the meanings it reveals carry the reflected image of this domination. Using Helene Cixous' theory Ecriture Feminine, this paper examines the binary oppositions found in Joi Barrios' poetry. These binary oppositions contribute to the death dealing process carried into the language that dictates the order Male/Female, placing the female on the negative side. In studying the poems, this paper tries to bring out the ways in which the poet redeems the female and her body, celebrating the woman's worth through her work, and thus displaying the unique value of women's writing. 1995-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/1236 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Feminist poetry Philippine poetry Barrios Joi -- Criticism and interpretation Feminism and literature
