Effects of different concentrations of malathion on the germination of Vigna sp. (bush sitao)
The effects of different concentrations of malathion on the percent germination, protein, sugar, and starch content to bush sitao (Vigna sp.) seeds were investigated. Soil was sprayed with malathion at concentrations of 0.4, 0.8, 2.0, and 4.0 ml/L before the seeds were planted. The seeds in differen...

Summary: | The effects of different concentrations of malathion on the percent germination, protein, sugar, and starch content to bush sitao (Vigna sp.) seeds were investigated. Soil was sprayed with malathion at concentrations of 0.4, 0.8, 2.0, and 4.0 ml/L before the seeds were planted. The seeds in different concentrations were germinated up to 5 days when the first foliate leaves emerged. Increase in percent germination was observed at day 2 in all concentrations and it continued to increase up to day 3. However, at day 4, a decrease occurred. The protein content of germinated seedlings treated with the different concentrations of malathion fluctuated as days increased unlike that of the control where the decrease continued up to day 5. Starch and sugar contents of seeds germinated at higher concentrations of malathion were not significantly affected. However, regardless of the concentrations, there were changes that occurred as the duration of germination increased. |
