Effects of frequent inhalational exposure to commercial insecticides on cell count and RBC morphology of murine blood
Effects of commercial insecticides namely Baygon, Raid and Shelltox using different volumes and exposure durations via inhalation on the respective RBC, WBC and platelet counts of murine blood were studied. Changes in RBC morphology were also noted. A total of 27 white mice were exposed by inhalatio...

Effects of commercial insecticides namely Baygon, Raid and Shelltox using different volumes and exposure durations via inhalation on the respective RBC, WBC and platelet counts of murine blood were studied. Changes in RBC morphology were also noted. A total of 27 white mice were exposed by inhalation to different volumes specifically 1 ml 2 ml and 4 ml of the different brands. Three mice served as the control group of the experiment. The designated volumes of insecticides were sprayed inside the cages twice everyday for 1 week, 2 weeks and 3 weeks. Red blood cell, white blood cell and platelet counts were performed after the designated duration of exposure to insecticides. Results of the experimental showed variations in the RBC, WBC and platelet counts in the different volumes, brands and durations of exposure. Average RBC counts of experimental groups sprayed with 4 ml of insecticides in 3 weeks are 8.097 millions/cubic mm for Baygon, 6.841 millions/cubic mm for Raid and 5.809 millions/cubic mm for Sheltox. Average platelet counts of experimental groups sprayed with 4 ml of insecticides in 3 weeks are 5.005 millions/cubic mm for Baygon, 5.780 millions/cubic mm and 4.973 millions/cubic mm for Sheltox. Considering all the variables, time, type (brand), volume, changes in the RBC and WBC counts were significant unlike the platelet count which was not significant in all of the three variables taken simultaneously. RBC notably decreased in number as compared to the control while WBC increased in quality. Platelet counts varied. There were erythrocytes not having the regular spherical shape in the control group. These irregular RBC increased in number in the experimental groups. Monocytes, eosinophils decreased while lymphocytes and neutrophils showed varied trends. 1995-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/1291 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Insecticides--Toxicology Mice Blood cells Biology |
