Summary:A study on the seagrass primary productivity of Talin Bay, Batangas was conducted from July to December 1994. The primary production was verified by applying the Modified Light and Dark bottle technique. Biomass of the ecosystem was determined through relative abundance and chlorophyll analysis. Seagrasses were collected, identified, and verified at the National Museum. Physical and chemical characteristics of the water samples were analyzed. Water temperature, pH, Secchi disk transparency and depth, salinity, conductivity, total hardness, total alkalinity, nitrate, orthophosphate and silicate concentrations were the parameters measured during the samplings. The estimated gross primary productivity ranged from 0.1-19 mg./lh while the chlorophyll a content ranged from 0.3-321 ug/g of tissue. The measured physico-chemical parameters were within the levels of DENR Administrative Order #34 Water Quality Criteria for Coastal Waters (1990) classified as class SC. There were two seagrass species that were identified, these were Enhalus acoroides and Cymodocea rotundata.
