Cadmium, lead and zinc content in Mytilus edulis

Mussels collected from Manila Bay in Cavite side, Manila Bay in Navotas side and Manila Bay in Bulacan side were acid-digested and analyzed for total cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn) content using the atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Water was also analyzed for the same three metals. Water...

Water temperature, pH and salinity were also determined. Mean cadmium concentration of mussels in Manila Bay - Cavite side was measured as 0.027 mg/l. Mussels gathered from Manila Bay - Navotas side had of 0.021 mg/l while those gathered from Manila Bay- Bulacan side had 0.024 mg/l. Mean lead concentration of mussels in Manila Bay - Cavite side was measured as 0.36 mg/l. Mussels gathered from Manila Bay-Navotas side had 0.31 mg/l and those gathered from Manila Bay-Bulacan side had 0.48 mg/l. Mean zinc concentration of mussels in Manila Bay-Cavite side was measured as 3.11 mg/l. Mussels gathered from Manila Bay - Navotas side had 2.63 mg/l while those gathered from Manila Bay-Bulacan side had 2.76. The cadmium and lead concentration in mussels for the three sides are below the standard set by World Health Organization (WHO) in all foods which are 0.5 mg/L and 2.56 mg/l respectively. Zinc concentrations for the three sides are above the standards of WHO which is 2.00 mg/l. Mean cadmium concentration of water in Manila Bay-Cavite side was measured as 0.029 mg/l. Water from Manila Bay-Navotas side had 0.019 mg/l while water from Manila Bay-Bulacan side had 0.034 mg/l. Mean lead concentration of water in Manila Bay-Cavite side was measured as 0.63 mg/l. Water from Manila Bay-Navotas side had 0.70 mg.l while water from Manila Bay-Cavite side was measured as 0.56 mg/l. Water from Manila Bay-Navotas side had 0.73 and water from Manila Bay-Bulacan side had 3.87 mg/l. The temperature ranged from 25.6 to 32.0 centigrade, salinity ranged from 28.5 to 30.5 and the pH ranged from 5.9 to 6.5. 1996-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/1341 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Cadmium Lead--Toxicology Heavy metals Mussels Toxicity testing Zinc Water--Pollution
