Summary: | Four brands of mouthwash, designated as Brands A, B, C and D were tested for their effectivity in killing clinical isolates of Staphylococcus and Streptococcus spp. Staphylococcus sp. was readily killed with the use of Brand B, regardless of the concentration, length of exposure and agitation. However, using the other brands of mouthwash as bactericidal agent to Staphylococcus sp., concentration, length of exposure and agitation were important factors to consider. Streptococcus sp., on the other hand, required the consideration of the abovementioned factors in killing the microorganisms regardless of the mouthwash used. |
