A survey of the presence of metacercariae in Carangoides malabaricus (local name : Talakitok) and Auxis rochei (local name : Tulingan) from Lipa City, Batangas

Two fish species consisting of 30 fish samples per species were examined for the presence of metacercariae. These two species were Carangoides malabaricus ( talakitok ) and Auxis rochei ( tulingan ). The compression and digestion methods were utilized to determine the infection rate in the fins and...

Two fish species consisting of 30 fish samples per species were examined for the presence of metacercariae. These two species were Carangoides malabaricus ( talakitok ) and Auxis rochei ( tulingan ). The compression and digestion methods were utilized to determine the infection rate in the fins and gills and the metacercarial density in muscles. All of the fishes examined for the presence of metacercariae in the flesh were positive, registering a 100 % prevalence rate. The prevalence rate in the gills and fins in C. malabaricus are 16.67% and 30% respectively. The metacercarial density in C. malabaricus ranged between 10-89, with a mean of 40.33 + 20.35, A. rochei ranged between 162-1174, with a mean of 389.16 + 196.80. The results in this study demonstrate a positive correlation between an increase in the body weight of the samples with the metacercarial density of the fish samples. This maybe attributed to the bulk of the muscle and its nutritive value makes it desirable for parasitic growth (Kabata, 1985). 1997-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/1431 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Fishes -- Infections Fishes -- Parasites Worms Intestinal and parasitic
