Water quality and occurrence of phytoplankton in Paranaque-Zapote River

The physico-chemical characteristics in three sites along the Paranaque-Zapote River were determined for six months, July to December, 1996. The physical parameters measured were temperature and transparency while the chemical parameters measured were total solids, pH, hardness, and phosphate and nitrate content. The mean water temperature ranged from 24.83-29.20 centigrade transparency, 33.67-45.67 cm total solids, from 1,387-14,487 mg/l with 1,307-9,349 mg/l and 80-1,062 mg/l for dissolved and suspended solids, respectively pH, from 6.99-8.17 hardness, from 228-347 mg Ca CO31 and, phosphate and nitrate content was within the standard range of values for Class C waters. However, the range of values for the other parameters was above that of the standards for Class C waters. Synedra sp. and an unidentified sp. were the only phytoplankton seen in the river.
