A survey of the presence of digenetic trematode larvae in freshwater snails collected in U.P., Diliman

Three snail species were collected from July, 1996 to February, 1997 in a U.P., Diliman stream namely: Melanoides tuberculata, Ampullaria sp., and Vivipara burroughiama. Of the 93 M. tuberculata examined, 4 had trematode larvae all were noted in females with an overall prevalence of 4.30%. Infected...

Infected snails have body weight ranging between 0.2g-0.4g while those non-infected had between 0.1g-1.1g. The trematode larvae consisted of cercariae with ovoid shaped bodies and short narrow tail and sporocyts with sac-like bodies. Both Ampullaria sp. and Vivipara burroughiama were noticed to be devoid of trematode larval infection having weight between 0.6g-15.3g and 0.8g-5.2g respectively. But, two A. sp. were found to be more susceptible than males in the case of M. tuberculata. Thiarid snail sample was detected as susceptible species examined. 1997-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/1450 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Snails Digenea--Larvae Trematoda Parasites
