Description
Summary:Impatients balsamina (touch-me-not balsam in English kamantigue in Filipino) is a common garden plant of the family Balsaminaceae. It's flowers were tested for anti-dermatophytic activity, using the extraction method with distilled water as solvent, against three test organisms: Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum and Geotrichum candidum. Zones of inhibition on the three test organisms were measured and the different concentrations (25, 50, 75 and 100%) of the crude extract was subjected to a One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) in order to determine if they were significantly different from each other. Results showed that kamantigue has anti-dermatophytic activity against T. mentagrophytes and E. floccosum, but the different concentrations of the plant extract against the same test organisms were not significantly different from each other. The same plant showed no zone of inhibition on G. candidum.
