Summary: | A study was conducted to determine the duration of each stage of a mouse's normal estrous cycle and the effect of Dolichos lablab commonly known as Batau , on the estrous cycles of mice. Twelve mice were used in this study with the 3 mice serving as the control group and the other 9 as the treated groups. The 9 mice were divided into 3 groups with 3 members each. The control group received oral administration of water. The treated mice received oral administration of D. lablab every other day in concentrations of 62.5 mg/mL, 93.75 mg/mL, and 125.0 mg/mL per kilogram body weight, respectively. The experiment lasted for 30 days. Results showed that the control group had a Proestrus stage which lasted for 24.0790 hours. The treated group which received 93.75 mg/mL of Batau had a Proestrus stage longer than that of the control at 24.4253 hours while the Proestrus stage of the group forcefed with 125.0 mg/mL of Batau lasted for 34.7420 hours. For the Estrus stage of the control group, it lasted for 23.7127 hours while the 62.5 mg/mL group fed with Batau lasted for 47.1233 hours while the 125.0 mg/mL treated group had an Estrus stage of 58.2830 hours. Furthermore, the Metestrus stage of the control group was at 23.9567 hours. On the other hand, the Metestrus stage of the treated group forcefed with 93.75 mg/mL of Batau was longer than that of the control at 24.1033 hours. The Diestrus stage of the control group was at 63.7537 hours. The treated groups' Diestrus stages did not differ significantly from that of the control's at 95% level of significance. Between the 62.5 mg/mL and 125.0 mg/mL treated groups, it was noted that the Proestrus, Estrus, and Metestrus stages of the 125.0 mg/mL group were longer by 10.6267 hours, 12.6920 hours, and 7.787 hours respectively. When the 93.75 mg/mL group was compared with the 125.0 mg/mL group, it was still the Proestrus, Estrus, and Metestrus stages of the 125.0 mg/mL group which were prolonged by 10.3167 hours, 11.1597 hours, and 9.6547 hours respectively |
