Description
Summary:Two snail species namely Melanoides tuberculata and Melanoides granifera collected from Maulawen river (UPLB) from July 17 to September 21, 1996 were identified as hosts of larval stages of digenetic trematodes. Of the 100 M. tuberculata, 18 were infected with prevalence rate ranging from 5.0-33.3%. Two cercarial body types were identified, xiphidiocercariae with stylet, distomate body and simple tail and furcocercariae with forked tail, spherical elongated body and ventral sucker. Of the 100 M. granifera, 45 were infected with prevalence rate ranging from 18.2-66.7%. One cercarial type was observed, xiphidiocercariae similar to that of M. tuberculata. For infected M. granifera, lighter snails were observed to be more numerous than heavier ones.
