Summary: | A total of 100 snails each of Balanocochlis glans and Melanoides granifera were collected from a stream in Pangarap Village in Novaliches, Q.C. to survey for possible cercarial infection. Results showed Balanocochlis glans had no infection and 47 % of Melanoides granifera samples were infected. Out of the 47% infected samples of Melanoides granifera, 29 of 47 were female and 18 of 47 were male, with a percentage of 62% and 38%, respectively. More so, infected snails were greater in weight (0.4 g. - 1.6 g.) and length (12 mm. - 25 mm.) as compared to non-infected snails (0.2 g. - 1.4 g.) and (9 mm. - 25 mm.), respectively. Two types of cercaria were observed. cercaria type A having a length of 178 microns and cercaria type B with 430 microns in length. Along with the cercaria, sporocyst and rediae were observed in the infected snails. |
