Reported cases of systemic lupus erythematosus in Metro Manila hospitals from 1991 to 1995

Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of the various parts of the body. This study entitled Reported Cases of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Metro Manila Hospitals from 1991 to 1995: determined the sex distribution, age distribution, and symptomology of lupus erythematosus cases in Metro Manila. The study was limited to Metro Manila hospitals. All data gathered were from six Metro Manila hospitals from January 1991 to December 1995. From the six hospitals, 123 in-patient records were gathered. The results obtained showed that the number of female lupus patients outnumbers the number of female patients. Average ages were 28 for males and 31 for females. Furthermore, the age distribution or range for males was noted at 30 to 39 while in females the age range was 20 to 29. The most common symptoms usually associated with lupus based on the data obtained from 103 records were nephritis, cutaneous lesions, fever, urinary tract infections, joint paints, breathing difficulty, seizures, and abdominal pains.
