Summary:This study aimed to describe the financial, social, emotional, physical and spiritual effects of a husband's alcoholism on his wife. Furthermore, how the alcoholism affected parent and child relationships, why the wife chose to stay with her alcoholic husband, and what coping strategies were used by the wife of the alcoholic to deal with her situation. The subjects consisted of five wives of alcoholics, belonging to Al-Anon Family Groups, and either still living with or separated from the Alcoholic husband. Data was gathered via in-depth interview and content analysis was done to analyze the data observed. The findings showed the various negative effects of the husband's alcoholism on the children and how some wives' parenting was affected by the husbands alcoholism, how some of the children were scared by the father's behavior, how the mother would be short-tempered at the children due to her tension gained by problems associated by the alcoholic, the unhealthy and healthy ways of coping of the wife such as overworking, spending time with friends, social withdrawal and the like and the different beliefs which made her stay with her alcoholic husband such as financial aspect, beliefs or cultural norms and personal reasons.
