The effect of orally administered crude leaf extract of Momordica charantia Linn. (ampalaya) on the intrinsic motility of rabbit small intestine

The study was designed to determine the in vitro effect of ampalaya crude leaf extract on intestinal motility in twenty (20) rabbits, divided into four (4) groups of five (5) each. Each group was administered four (4) different dosages of the extract in 1.7 g/Kg., 2.7 g/Kg, 4.3 g/Kg and 6,9 g/Kg, wi...

Each group was administered four (4) different dosages of the extract in 1.7 g/Kg., 2.7 g/Kg, 4.3 g/Kg and 6,9 g/Kg, with Normal Saline Solution (NSS) as control. Using charcoal tracing method, intestinal motility was measured by distance traveled by marker over total length of the small intestine multiplied by one hundred (100). There was a dependent decrease in distance by using crude leaf extract, indicating that there was decreased intestinal motility of the rabbit. Regression analysis showed that increasing dosage of ampalaya crude leaf extract may decrease the intestinal motility of the rabbits. 1998-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/1552 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Extracts Medicinal plants Materia medica Vegetable Plants Useful
