Description
Summary:A study was conducted to determine the effects of Smilax leucophylla decoction on the red blood cell count, hemoglobin concentration and hematocrit of adult Swiss mice (50 g average weight). Eighteen male mice were divided into three groups. Each group consists of three replicates and three controls. The treated group were force-fed with the decoction after the initial blood test. The first test group received 1.0 ml, the second with 1.5 ml, the third, with 2.0 ml of the decoction. Control groups were force-fed with tap water. Blood tests were conducted at the start of the experiment and after two consecutive weeks. The group treated with 1.0 ml decoction had an average RBC count of 5.45 M/mm3, hemoglobin concentration of 199.67 g/L, and a hematocrit of 52.44 %. The second group treated with 1.5 ml decoction had 5.48 M/mm3, 199.89 g/l, and 53.1% as blood parameter values. The third group given 2.0 ml decoction yielded 5.53 M/mm3, 203.67 g/l, 54.67%. Results showed that the mean differences in the RBC count, hemoglobin concentration and hematocrit, when compared with the control, were not significant. Sarsaparillang-Puti decoction had no significant effect on blood parameters.
