Analysis of Crassostrea sp. for the presence of fecal coliforms and growth of its microbial flora
This study was conducted to determine the presence of fecal coliforms of shelled oysters bought from Fairview wet market. Moreover, the oysters were also analyzed in terms of heterotrophic plate count after 0, 1, 3, and 6 hours of room temperature incubation. Results showed that the samples were pos...

Summary: | This study was conducted to determine the presence of fecal coliforms of shelled oysters bought from Fairview wet market. Moreover, the oysters were also analyzed in terms of heterotrophic plate count after 0, 1, 3, and 6 hours of room temperature incubation. Results showed that the samples were positive for the presence of fecal coliform, since the oysters were possibly harvested in contaminated waters. Plate count showed a decline in CFU/g from 0 to 3 hour room temperature incubation and a ten to hundredfold increase in bacterial count by 6 hours of incubation, which could be accounted for by the microbial interactions and presence of viruses. |
