Description
Summary:Prednisone is a glucocorticoid that has been said to have an increasing effect on blood glucose level and weight. The study determined which of two dosages of Prednisone would have an effect on increasing blood glucose level and weight of mice. Thirty 2-month old male Mus musculus (albino mice) whose weights ranged from 14-25 grams were divided into 3 groups of 10 mice each. Except for the control group, each group was fed daily for 8 weeks with 2 dosages of prednisone. Experimental group A was given prednisone with a dosage of 1.00 mg/Kg body weight, and Experimental group B was given a dosage of 1.20 mg/kg body weight of prednisone. Blood glucose testings and weight determinations were done 4 times. This was done every 2 weeks after the start of prednisone administration. Comparison between the two dosages and the control group was done with the use of Analysis of Co-Variance test. Among the two dosages studies, the 1.20 mg/kg per body weight dosage was found to have a higher increase in the blood glucose level and weight of mice.
