Description
Summary:Acute toxicity test was conducted to determine the mortality rate of Pomacea sp. exposed to different concentrations of cadmium. The 96-hr LC50 value of cadmium to Pomacea sp. was also determined. Three replicates having 10 snails each were used per concentration. Results of the definitive test showed that mortality of Pomacea sp. increased with increasing cadmium concentration. At 1.00 mg/I, it was observed to have 1 16.67% mortality. A 26.67% and 36.67% mortalities were observed at 1.50 mg/I and 2.00 mg/I, respectively. At 2.50 mg/I, 43.33% mortality was recorded and 46.67% mortality at 3.00 mg/I. Snails exposed to 3.50 mg/I and 4.00 mg/I of cadmium had 53.33% and 76.67 % mortalities respectively. A mortality of 100% was recorded at 5.00 mg/I. The control group showed 10.00% mortality. The 96-hr LC50 value computed using the Trimmed Spearman-Karber Analysis was 2.751 mg/I.
