Summary: | The title of this paper alone gives an idea on what the research is about, an analysis on the phenomenon of the negativities of discrimination. Maybe some might wonder why the author chose phenomenology in writing this thesis. Phenomenology is a descriptive discipline. This study concurs with Edmund Husserl's idea that pure descriptions provide possiblities in giving crucial information for analyses and investigations. The discipline of phenomenology will be explained briefly in the early part of this paper.
What are the negativities of discrimination? Discrimination is not necessarily negative in its rudimentary meaning. It is a natural aspect of human reality and a natural use for knowing the difference of two or more things. It is only when the difference of some individuals, whether physical or otherwise, are used to categorize or label the whole personality that prejudice or negative discrimination come about. Discrimination is pointed out in this paper as the kind that is prejudicial or negative. As we go along this thesis the idea of the negativities of such discrimination is explained as the negative factors that result when discrimination happens. This includes the cycle of negativities that happen when two sides, the one who discriminates and one who is discriminated against, gen involve in the process of negative actions and reactions. Harmfull effects, unfortunatley, will usually come out of this situation.
This paper will try to understand what discrimination is from different angles, its patters and as a world concern and also, legal rights will be touched as an instrument for equalization of opportunities. The focus, however, will be more on the disabled sector of society since the author's experience, as a person with disability will be used in the analysis of this phenomenon hoping that awareness is awakened among readers.
Rehabilitation in this thesis is given an expanded explanation as not only for disabled persons but also for the able-bodied as well. This expanded type of rehabilitation is thought of as a positive factor for real integration to set in, resulting to a strong and happy society. |
