Summary:Coronary artery disease is the most common type of heart ailment. Among all the coronary heart diseases, atherosclerosis has the greatest percentage of incidence in comparison with other types of diseases. This study gathered all risk factors of atherosclerosis among Filipino middle age men aged 40-65 years at two cardiologists' clinic at the Makati Medical Center were studied and risk factors for atherosclerosis were tallied. The data gathered showed that cigarette smoking (72%), high cholesterol levels (68%), hypertension (65%) and diabetes (63%) were the leading risk factors of atherosclerosis. Family history received 60% and obesity also received 60% of the records surveyed. It was also found that the age range between 46-50 had the highest occurrence of atherosclerosis among the patients studied. These findings coincide with research studies conducted about atherosclerosis such as myocardial infarction (28%) and stroke (30%).
