The adjustment problems of Filipino-American citizens in the Philippines : the case of De La Salle University students.

Abstract. This study focused on the Filipino-American citizens who emigrated to the Philippines, their adjustment problems and how they were able to cope with such problems. The study also highlighted the problem of how these Filipino-American citizens were able to successfully integrate and accustom themselves to a different and new culture. This in turn enhances the need to inform Filipino-Americans in the United States intending to study or stay in the Philippines. The study also highlighted the need for mechanisms, such as organizations, to be organized and to be able to assist these newcomers to the Philippines. Helping them adjust to the Philippine setting, the country of origins of one of their parents is a big boost towards strengthening Filipino-American cultural ties since such organizations could help overcome major cultural barriers which serve as obstacles to the adjustments of these Filipino-American citizens.
