Critical Theory and the Signs of Utopia is a study on the features of the eight first-place winning entries from the Futuristic Fiction category of the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature from the year 2000 to 2004. Using Ernst Bloch's utopian hermeneutics, Carl Freedman's theory on the affinity between Critical Theory and Science Fiction and Darko Suvin's perspectives of locus, horizon and orientation, this thesis includes an analysis of the signs of utopia and Critical Theory present in Futuristic Fiction. The study contains background information on the beginnings of the science fiction genre, utopian fiction, Philippine Cinema and Komiks, and previous critique on Futuristic Fiction. Towards the end of the study, a definition of the emergent genre of Philippine Futuristic Fiction has been made. 2005-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/2127 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Philippine fiction (English)--History and criticism Philippine literature Utopias in literature Future in literature Comparative Literature
