On one hand we have Capoeira, The Brazilian Martial Art, which has a fundamental philosophy fueled by deception and on the other hand we have Martin Buber, the theistic existentialist, whose core philosophy aims for Genuine Dialogue which requires being upfront and direct. The writer of this thesis firmly believes that the physical dialogue of two capoeiristas in the roda (circle where capoeira is played) can be considered as Genuine Dialogue despite one of Capoeira's core philosophies (malandragen) is of deception (indirectness). Through the course of this thesis the will understand more the essential tenets of Martin Buber's philosophy and have a grasp of why the research proves that deception can be an avenue of Genuine Dialogue. This problem will be solved by showing context and that deed cannot be separated from teachings. Through this a type of necessary deception will be shown. Capoeira will be used as a microcosm and a benchmark for other forms of deception in society. 2007-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/2158 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Buber Martin 1878-1965 Philosophical anthropology Capoeira (Dance) Deception Dialogue Philosophy
