Morphological identification, morphometric analysis and comparison of DNA extraction utility of ROSE and TNes-urea methods on six species of Pterocaseio spp (Caesionidae) from Navotas Fish-Port
Morphological identification was successful in classifying six species of Pterocaesio from sixty specimens collected from one mixed species haul in Navotas. Body patterns, specifically longitudinal stripes or blotches and markings on the caudal fins proved most instrumental in the identification. Sh...

Morphological identification was successful in classifying six species of Pterocaesio from sixty specimens collected from one mixed species haul in Navotas. Body patterns, specifically longitudinal stripes or blotches and markings on the caudal fins proved most instrumental in the identification. Shape analysis using sixteen morphometric characters derived from ten landmarks was successful in delineating four of the six species. A rotating plot using three PCA axes shows four species: P.tile, P. digramma, P. tesellata and P. randalli, clustered in generalized groups and two species, P. pisang and P. chrysozona, clustered overlapping with each other. The morphometric characters used clustered into three groups: measurements for the head and trunk, measurements from the end of the dorsal fin to the tail area and measurements from the end of the dorsal fin to the base of the caudal peduncles. For DNA extraction, both ROSE and TNES Urea methods were successful and are applicable to the species. ROSE produced DNA from thirteen out of eighteen samples while TNES Urea from fourteen out of eighteen samples. 2008-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/2186 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Fishes--Morphology Fishes--Identification Biology |
