Since childhood the main passion of the proponent of this study has been the game of basketball. From the proponent's study, basketball is a major attraction to people all over the world. Basketball is considered as one of the top Olympic sports (FIBA World Championship 2006 2). There are approximately 450 million people who play basketball around the world (FIBA World Championship 2006 2). Basketball is the most popular sport in the country, thus it can be used as a medium and venue to teach children the principles that would guide them throughout their lives. In the country, a basketball court can be seen almost anywhere (Paras 2 Best of Philippines: Games 3). The proponent got involved in basketball clinics for the youth. These clinics had a two-fold purpose - to teach basketball skills and impart Bible-based values and principles. From his personal involvement and participation with basketball clinics, the proponent saw a positive impact that the clinics had on the participants including him. However, the proponent became aware of the lack of literature which could have been given to the clinic participants. He thought that an inspirational book would help them capture the life principles taught in reference to the game of basketball. Therefore, the proponent realized that there is a need for an inspirational book that presents Biblical principles in the context of basketball. The main problem this thesis seeks to address is the need for an inspirational book for young basketball enthusiasts that imparts biblical values. The guiding questions of the thesis are: How can an inspirational book on basketball be developed to be an effective context for teaching values to the youth? What parallelisms can be made between the life of a basketball enthusiast and basketball? How can Bible teachings and principles be made relevant and attractive to the youth through the context of basketball? The proponent came up with a book entitled, Victory Verses- Knowing God Through The Game . The book is about how lessons in basketball can be applied in life as guided by the Bible. The stories in the book show how Christian principles could be used in approaching the game of basketball. The book presents eight fictional stories and five testimonies of basketball personalities. Each story concludes with a Bible verse. Making the presentation of the book appealing to children and basketball enthusiasts is a key objective. This is achieved by featuring sports photographs taken by the proponent. The proponent seeks to touch the lives of the youth through this book. The book submitted is a prototype of what will later be published. The actual book may be glossy paper that has less thickness than the prototype. The book will be perfect bound and will still be in full color. 2009-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/2354 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Sports--Religious aspects Religious education of children Basketball for children Communication |
