Skateboarding as a subculture, not as an extreme sport, is the central topic of this article series. Aside from skateboarders having exclusive behaviors and norms, the sport also has its own history, its own style of visual arts and it is in confluence with other forms of low culture. Capitalized by the global culture industry, skateboarding gained a following in our country. But due to lack of serious studies, about the skateboard subculture, much less in the Philippine context, the author's observations and interactions with Filipino skateboarders are salient in this article series.
