Although most of the portrayals of Filipino-Indians in Philippine Literature and popular culture are stereotypes, these are slowly being reinvented especially in this multicultural age that we are living in. One such work that aims to do so is the award-winning screenplay 143445'6: The Singalong Singhs (2008) by Emmanuel dela Cruz and Michiko Yamamoto. In studying the Indian home in this screenplay, Antoinette Burton's critical essay entitled House/ Daughter/ Nation: Interiority, Architecture and Historical Imagination in Janaki Majumdar's Family History is used as a framework. The identification, reconstruction and signification of the home are done through the analysis of each of the main characters and its interplay with the work's structure and dialogue. Even if there are still some minor inconsistencies in the facts provided in the screenplay, the researcher concludes that it is a promising portrayal of the actual concerns of Filipino-Indians living in the Philippines as reflected in the characters and in line with the background of the study. 2010-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/2411 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Philippine literature--History and criticism Philippines--Civilization--Indic influences Motion picture plays Comparative Literature |
