Three years ago, people were shocked by the flood and destruction brought by Typhoon Ondoy and a similar disaster occurred just a few months ago because of the typhoon Gener and the monsoon. But typhoon are only one of the factors which causes floods. Part of the problem also lies in the failure of the citizens and government to enforce proper urban planning and waste management. People fear of floods during the rainy seasons. But unknown to many, there is a small part in Metro Manila where [people have deal with flood as part of their everybody lives. This photo essay aims to show the way of life of the residents of Artex Compound, a place in Panghulo, Malabon that have been permanently submerged in water since 2004. Nine months of observing, associating with the people and documenting were done in order to show how the residents have coped with their current living conditions. This involved the daily activities and interactions that were happening inside the community. The photo essays was taken in a way so that it would be explanatory in nature. Its objects is to explain how the change in their environment has affected the lives of the residents of Artex Compound. The result is a collection of 20 carefully selected photos of anthropological nature. With these photographs, the viewers can get a glimpse of their way of life and understand how the residents have adapted ever since they were permanently flooded When asked how they were able to cope up, the residents of Artex Compound would simply answer that it is only a matter of getting used to. However, it is unfair to assume that they do not do anything to improve their situation. No matter how used to they are to their current condition, they still yearn to live on dry land. It is also important to envision that the events shown in the photos may become the future of the bigger population if the problems concerning the lack of proper urban planning and waste management continue to be disregarded.
