Summary: | The continuous search for bioactive compounds capable of effectively inhibiting nociception has directed the study to investigate on the analgesic potential of Atalantia retusa. Male ICR mice (n=9) and Sprague-Dawley rats (n=6) were used to verify antinociception using the somatic and visceral pain models respectively. There was significant (P < 0.001) inhibition of abdominal stretches in mice administered with the median dose (1.437mg/kg BW) of the non-polar extract, which is 55.48% better compared to the positive control (10mg/kg BW). Concomitantly, the non-polar extract have significantly (P < 0.05) inhibited paw licking and biting in the somatic model by 6.05% better compared to the positive control. The current study demonstrated the potential use of A. retusa as an analgesic drug. |
